How can I change the owner name on my computer. Windows XP?

Do not tell me to do the following because IT WON%26#039;T WORK!

I need to hear from someone who really knows something about computers and not just because they know how to turn them on and off. PLEASE HELP.

1st hit start 2ND open the control panel%26amp; 3rd go to computer administrator.

go to user accounts, and you should be able to change it,back to your name.|||This is from XP Help

To rename a computer

You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group in order to complete this procedure. If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings might also prevent you from completing this procedure.

Open System in Control Panel.

On the Computer Name tab, click Change.

Under Computer name, type a new name for the computer, and then click OK.

If the computer is a member of a domain, you will be prompted to provide a user name and user password to rename the computer in the domain.

Notes

To open System, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click System.

A computer joining a Windows domain must use the name created for it by the network administrator, unless you have a user name and password with rights to create computer accounts.

If you supplied a valid user name and password for a secure Windows domain, the domain membership will be automatically updated with the new computer name.

If you specify a computer name longer than 15 characters and you want longer names to be recognized by the Active Directory domain, the domain administrator must enable registration of DNS names that are 16 bytes or more.

If you rename your computer or workgroup when it is disconnected from the network, duplicate computer names might result. Check with your network administrator before renaming your computer.|||go to start controle panle then switch that to clasic view then go to system then click computer name.. if this is the best answer u get tell me..|||First off, stop being so pissy.

Secondly, be really specific in your question. A poorly worded question just gets you answers that aren%26#039;t what you want.

Do you want to change the registered owner name? That is, when you go to the System entry of Control Panel, do you want to change the name it%26#039;s registered to? That requires a registry hack, so if you%26#039;re not confident don%26#039;t do it; messing up the registry gets you an unusable system.

Run regedit.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

SOFTWARE

Microsoft

Windows NT

CurrentVersion

In the right pane, change Registered Owner

If you want to change the name of the main user as delivered from Owner to your name, what you typed above does work.

If neither of these is what you%26#039;re looking for, post more info.
