Recently hyphenated my maiden name with hubby%26#039;s because we are expecting our first baby. Got as far as SS, bank account, and driver%26#039;s license, but now starting to regret it as it%26#039;s become a royal PIA. Both names are easy to pronounce and of English origin, but I have to spell both and mention that the name is hyphenated which for some odd reason seems to trip people and computers up.AAAHHHH!! I wish that I had researched this a little more. Considering just changing my name to hubby%26#039;s before taxes or baby comes, but wondering if this will just create more of a mess. BTW, it%26#039;s only been about 3 months since I started this process and not sure if SS will let me change name again so quickly. Anyone else been through a similar situation?|||I really haven%26#039;t heard of this, but I know you can give the baby any of the last names, yours, his, the hyphenated one. It won%26#039;t be as bad as you think, so many women keep their names that schools, etc. think nothing of your name being different that the kid%26#039;s.
My sister divorced, took her own name back, then married again and kept her name. So she, her husband, and her son from first marriage all have different names.
I am glad the hyphen trend is dying out. I am with you, it%26#039;s just too nuts-and the next generation then might be joining two hyphenated names! But keep your own name if you like. I do understand it means a lot to many women, and I don%26#039;t think men should get so upset. My husband was so mad when I kept mine,, but when I asked him how he would like to give up his name, he said %26quot;That would be HORRIBLE%26quot;. Exactly.
