Is your 2nd hand PC registered to somebody else ?

First, the registered name is what you or your dealer entered when

the computer was first set up. It appears all over, but primarily in

the System Properties dialog box: Press Win+Break to see this dialog

box, or right-click the My Computer icon and choose Properties. In

the General tab you'll find your name and possibly an %26quot;organization%26quot;

name as well.

Second, here's how to change that information:

1. Choose the Run command from the Start menu. Or press Win+R.

2. Type REGEDIT into the box.

3. Click OK to run the Registry Editor.

4. Open the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE entry.

5. Open Software.

6. Open Microsoft.

7a. For Windows 98/ME, open Windows.

7b. For Windows XP/NT, open Windows NT.

8. Click to select the Current Version entry.

In the list on the right side of the screen you'll find the

Registered Organization and Registered Owner items. They may be blank.

9. Double-click to open the Registered Owner item. A box appears were

you can edit, delete or replace the current owner name. Click OK to

make the change.

10. Repeat, if necessary, step 9 for the Registered Organization item.

Click OK to make the change.

11. Close the Registry Editor window.

12. Restart Windows.

I am not a hacker and I am not going to tell you how do it. There is a way to do and you should go google it.
Hi there!

It's a little hard to help you when you don't tell us what operating system you are using. Since you mentioned IE and Office, I assume it's Windows. Probably Windows XP Home. You can find out by looking at the screen that appears when you start your computer. Or by doing a right click on the %26quot;My Computer%26quot; icon. (It's located either on your desktop or shows when you click on the Start button.) In the context menue that will appear after you did the right click on the icon, you select %26quot;Properties%26quot;.

Anyhow. For Windows XP, you can find the answers on Microsoft's website:

To delete files like Word Documents: 1) Ask your sister if she has back ups / copies of those files, or she'll be very, very angry with you... ;-)

2) Select the files in the Windows (not! Internet) Explorer, and press the DEL key on your keyboard. Then click YES when Windows asks you if you want to move the selected files to the recycle bin. Do only delete files you know your sister will no longer need and do only delete files you know your sister created in the first place. Just deleting random files is a very bad idea as it will break your system.

For the virus: You should run an online scanner to make sure you actually get the right name of the virus. (Symantec's website makes me believe you've got the wrong name, and information on the web and on this website on removing the files might be bogus.)

An online scanner I like is NanoScan: http://www.nanoscan.com/

Its free version will only tell you the name of the virus and not delete it, but that'd be a good start anyhow. You could then try to find removal instructions on McAfee's or Symantec's websites (see below).

You might also want to try if Yahoo's toolbar can delete the thing, as it comes with anti spyware: http://toolbar.yahoo.com/

Please make sure to get an experienced user help you with all the steps necessary! You can break the whole system if you do click the wrong button(s)!

That said, I wish you good luck! :)

Regards,

Christian

P.S.: If you haven't got a virus scanner yet, you can get one from here: http://free-av.com/ But please do not install it before you deleted the one already on your system. Also make sure to always keep your system and your virus scanner updated. :)
