Is it possible to hack into another poster's computer on a forum?

I was on a different forum and one of the more prominent posters there commented in anger that he had been hacked, that the address of his machine was discovered by the hacker and that the hacker had access to all his files. There was definitely something going on as the alleged hacker took over his nickname and a few of the other posters%26#039; nicknames. I saw that myself. They all let the other posters know that their name had been hijacked and it was also obvious by the change in style and content of the postings.

Nobody wanted to question the one poster who said his files had been accessed---I suppose out of fear of having their own computers hacked due to drawing attention to themselves. I think something went on, but I can%26#039;t rule out that the one who complained of being hacked was sock-puppeting all the other names and somehow changed all his various identities himself with the goal maybe of scaring the rest of the posters from posting by saying his files were accessed. He%26#039;s obsessed with the forum and is extremely bright and can be quite brutal to people who disagree with him in his responses. But if I had to put odds on it I%26#039;d say it was 5 to 1 NOT that guy doing it all to himself.

It was all deleted the next day by the moderator.

Can this all be done? Can somebody access your files if they have your computer number? If they can access them, can they delete them? How commonly does it happen? How hard is it to do? Is there a way to prevent this? I thought I heard that there exists some way of having a fake computer address number to mask your real one. Thanks.|||Q. Can this all be done?

A. Yes

Q. Can somebody access your files if they have your computer number?

A. With a bit of skill and programming knowledge, yes.

Q. If they can access them, can they delete them?

A. Once again, yes.

Q. How commonly does it happen?

A. Not very.

Q. How hard is it to do?

A. If you don%26#039;t know how to, yes very, if you know how to, no.

Q. Is there a way to prevent this?

A. Get a good firewall (i recommend the AVG 8.0 Internet Security Suite)

Q. I thought I heard that there exists some way of having a fake computer address number to mask your real one.

A. Yes, its called a proxy, there are many different styles of them, and i could type about 10 page on them.

Hope this helps!

-DareDeval756|||I believe that poster was talking about a computer %26quot;IP address%26quot; the only thing you can really do with a IP address is pretty much nothing but getting trival info.

The ISP company though can find out where you live but they need a search warrant

The answer is No you can not hack anyone by finding out there IP address.

Some ways that a person can hack someone

A keylogger

To find a keylogger use a antispyware such as Malwarebytes AntiMalware

http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Ant鈥?/a>

and/or

SuperAntiSpyware

http://www.superantispyware.com/

A Brute Force program just guessing passwords using the dictionary

Way to prevent it is just make a relatively long password with numbers

The Forgot the password feature of a site can be exploited if you gave away info(secret question) and they hacked your email account|||It is not simple to control a person%26#039;s PC. Most likley the victim was keylogged and the hacker had his username and password along with the website. Do not be scared, just don%26#039;t download untrustful things. For the hacker to have total access of your PC, they would need to install a RAT(Remote Admin Trojan) this cannot be done without a user downloading a virus.
